This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies (local storage) that MyCoverLetter uses, what each one does, and how you can control them.

1. What cookies and local storage are

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. Local storage works similarly, but the data stays in your browser and is not automatically sent to a server with every request. Both let a site remember things between page loads.

2. What we use

We keep this deliberately minimal, but the site does carry two Google tags — listed below alongside the cookies the service cannot run without.

  • Advertising — Google Ads. Every page loads Google's conversion tag (gtag.js), which sets cookies that let Google measure whether a visit that came from one of our ads ended in a purchase.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics (GA4). Every page also loads Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure how visitors use the site (which pages they view, how they got here). We use this to understand what's working, not to identify individuals.
  • Strictly necessary — your draft answers. Your wizard answers are saved in your browser's local storage so you can refresh or come back without starting over. They stay on your device until you clear your browser data.
  • Strictly necessary — payment and security. When you go to checkout, Stripe sets its own cookies to process the payment and detect fraud. These are essential to taking a payment; see Stripe's cookie policy.
  • Strictly necessary — hosting. Our host, Vercel, may set short-lived cookies for load balancing and security.

The strictly necessary cookies above do not require your consent. The Google Ads and Google Analytics tags do, and we are working on the consent controls for them. In the meantime you can block them with any browser setting or extension that blocks third-party and advertising cookies, and the rest of the service will work normally.

3. How to control them

Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and clear site data from its settings — usually under "Privacy" or "Site settings". Clearing site data for this site also removes your saved draft answers, and blocking cookies entirely will prevent checkout from working.

4. Changes

We will update this page whenever the technologies we use change. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version.
